Decide NOW!

If you are put in a position and given the authority AND expectation to make a decision...then MAKE IT!!!!!!

Grow a spine and make a decision that might save someone's life!!

And if you're not capable or comfortable enough to do this, then please, PLEASE!!!! get out of my way and let me do it. And do NOT question me when I do!!

Thank you. I am done venting and will now try to get some sleep on what otherwise has been a pleasant call night.

PLEASE tell me you've been paying attention for the last year. I see BOTH kids AND adults...hence the name Med/Peds: Internal Medicine (adults) and Pediatrics (kids).

I can be your doctor and your kids' (someday) doctor and your dad's doctor. I can see Molly, her husband, their kids (someday). I can see you grandparents and your nieces and nephews all in the same office at the same time. I can see Eric and Christina and Rachel and Jason and Buddy all in one fail swoop. I don't deliver babies and I don't do surgery. But if you, or anyone you know that's already born has a primary care medical problem...I'm you doctor. Come see me.

And, yes, I am awesome. Thank you for acknowledging that.

i know, i just get warm fuzzies thinking about you as a pediatrician. and if i think of you as a pediatrician who just so happens to know how to treat adults, it makes me get even more warm fuzzies about how unnecessarily smart you are.

aw, shucks, Ms. Becky...you're makin' me blush!

That's the thought that ran through my head when I read your comment. Like some cheesy line in a melodrama.

My anxiety level about taking Buddy to the doctor has started to rise again. He hasn't been (fortunately) since his two-year-old check-up, and now here we are and his 3rd birthday is tomorrow. So, I have made his appointment for his 3-year check-up...but, man oh man...not looking forward to it. Not so crazy about his doc because I don't think his doc is so crazy about him. But, what are you gonna do?

Can you move here?

Rachel: There is a problem.

Buddy's Pediatrician SHOULD be crazy about him and you SHOULD be crazy about Buddy's pediatrician. If not, then time to find a new pediatrician. There is a strong chance that in 3-4 years we will be moving there...but that doesn't help you now. It's important that you and doc get along and that you're comfortable with him/her. It's ok as long as everything is fine, but, God forbid, an emergency arises or Buddy ends up in the hospital, then you want to KNOW FOR SURE that his doc is there for him 100% and that you trust his/her medical decisions.

It's funny, people will look at 4 different stores and try on 15 pairs of shoes until they're 100% satisfied...but those same people are afraid to change doctors or get a second opinion.

It's ok, you have my permission to feel comfortable with your son's MD. If you're not, then it's time to look elsewhere.
